For Fellow Cancer Patients

This blog is also for those who find it and are themselves similarly afflicted. While this is not meant to be a scientific journal, I hope you find the story and information presented both useful and encouraging. I'm also happy to look at comments and answer any questions I can as time allows, so feel free to email me at nuggetnoggin@gmail.com. To you in Good Health!

Humor

Someone wise once noted, or I may have seen it as a postscript on a Hallmark card, that Laughing sends Oxygen to your Blood Tissue, and occasionally Pee to your Pants.  It's for these reasons and more that Humor, wherever you can find it, is key to keeping a positive attitude and the world on an even keel when facing what would otherwise be a daunting challenge, and the role humor plays in eliminating stress as well as remaining positive is essential to beating cancer.  To that end, here are a few of the sites I like to look through or listen to from time to time to lighten my mood.  Not being someone who has ever been easily offended I find it useful to laugh at anything, including myself.  For example, when I got the results from my MRI back and was scheduled to go in for surgery, my brother's girlfriend offered to go get my sawzall they'd borrowed and I think still had squirreled away in their shed, cap off my dome, then take out that damned golf ball in my head with her egg beaters.  It cracked me up and lightened my mood as I went in to get my skull cracked open then get my grey matter bored into and peeled apart on a search and destroy mission for stuff that shouldn't be there.  Plus I'd get my sawzall back.

And for another example of a good laugh at my expense, one of my oldest, dearest friends opened his most recent message to me with this:

Ted Nugget Noggin ! Whooooooo oh yes ! Cat Box Fever.

Love it! I'll never live that down if I live to be 100, but I'm cool with that.  Plus it makes me wonder if the Nuge might have a head full of nuggets like a bowl full of grapes.  I hope not, but it would explain things.

If you have some sites you find hilarious, feel free to comment at the bottom of the page or email me the links  if you like.

The Onion
Much like the Daily Show and the Colbert Report, the Onion keeps its finger on the funnybone of the issues driving the nation and the  world.

Adam Carolla Podcast
Adam sets the standard when it comes to giving a good interview and being able to rail on any subject.  Topics often descend into bodily function humor, especially as it relates to human sexuality, which I admit I've always had an appreciation for.  Maybe too much time in locker rooms.  Besides, he and I both share a deep and abiding love for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and will eat them by the pillow case if given the chance.  If you use iTunes, his podcast can also be found through their podcast feature. Get it on, gotta get it on, get it on
As a sidenote, one of the friends of the Carolla show, Bald Bryan, is battling a massive glioblastoma. He talks on the show from time to time about his treatments and how he's doing and what is happening with his treatments. Bald Bryan also has a blog: http://aninconvenienttumor.posterous.com/
good stuff

FunnyOrDie
From funnyman Will Ferrell and his goofy partners, they've put together this gem with videos that bring the absurd to life.

I Can Has CheezBurger
A collection of sites including LolCats and the FailBlog among others.  You won't believe the things some people do.

People of WalMart
An hilarious dissertation on White Trash culture.  Gotta pick up that spray on duct tape somewheres.

Vice Magazine Do's and Don'ts
Vice is a magazine based out of Brooklyn or Queens that covers NYC party culture and has pretensions of exploring the complicated lives of the literati.  They have a Do's and Don'ts section that's just hilarious.  The Don'ts will make you wonder why some people try so hard when they dress themselves.

Unhappy Hipsters
The folks at Unhappy Hipsters scour the pages of rags like Dwell, ArchDaily, and numerous other publications and websites that attempt to glamorize modern architecture and design, then provide what i often find to be witheringly sarcastic and satirical captions that serve as an hilarious punch in the gut to the pretensions of modern design.  Find your future home here:

An example that I personally love...poor hipster should've put full spectrums in the recessed cans:

Sleep Talkin' Man
This site is the brainchild of the wife of a wacky Englishman whose nocturnal musings apparently cover a wide spectrum of his subconscious.  Out of a sense of obligation to do something for the public good, she decided to record and transcribe his deep sleep ramblings and share them with the world.  What do they put in the tea over there?  Whatever it is, it's both wacky and frippin' funny.
